5:02:17 PM Lovenkrands fancies Gers return
Schalke 04 winger Peter Lovenkrands says he would jump at the chance to rejoin his former club Rangers. The 28-year-old Dane moved to the German side under freedom of contract in May 2006 after spending six seasons at Ibrox. "It's a bit difficult for me to speak about, but I would have loved to come back to Rangers," Lovenkrands said. "Would I still go to Rangers? You can probably tell from the look on my face that I would."
The speedy forward remains with Schalke, although he is currently injured and sat out his side's 1-0 pre-season friendly victory over Rangers in Germany on Saturday. Lovenkrands believes his former club enquired about luring him back to the Scottish Premier League but negotiations stalled at an early stage. "I would have done it in a minute, but it wasn't to be. There was a bit of contact, but not enough apparently," Lovenkrands said. The Danish international joined Rangers from AB Copenhagen for £1.3m in June 2000. He played 182 times for the Glasgow giants, finding the net 54 times, but left the club under a cloud when Paul Le Guen arrived for his ill-fated stint as manager.
He has enjoyed mixed fortunes in Gelsenkirchen and, with one year left on his current deal, has made only 44 appearances, his impact being hindered by various injuries. Rangers manager Walter Smith has already brought in three strikers over the summer, with Kenny Miller, Andrius Velicka and Kyle Lafferty arriving to bolster his attacking options.
