Celtic yet to agree fee for Tamas

Gabriel Tamas in action for Romania

Celtic and Auxerre have yet to agree a fee for the transfer of Gabriel Tamas to the Scottish champions - and that could yet jeopardise the deal.

Representatives of the 24-year-old Romania defender held talks with the clubs on Thursday.

But these were continuing on Friday without agreement having been reached for Tamas, who has 35 caps.

Auxerre are thought to be seeking a fee of around £3.5m for the defender who joined from Spartak Moscow last summer.

Tamas, who had joined the Russians from Turkish outfit Galatasaray, played every minute of his country's three group matches at Euro 2008.

During his time with Spartak, he had loan spells with Dinamo Bucharest and Celta Vigo.

Meanwhile, the Celtic squad checked in at Glasgow Airport on Friday morning as they headed south for their first pre-season friendly.

The Glasgow side face Southampton in a testimonial match at St Mary's Stadium on Friday evening.

Former Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen and ex-Hibernian forward Derek Riordan appear to again be out of the first-team picture after playing for Celtic's reserves against Albion Rovers on Thursday.

Riordan scored Celtic's last goal in a 4-1 victory.
