4:18:27 PM Rangers closing in on Shittu deal
Rangers are close to completing the signing of defender Danny Shittu from Championship side Watford. The Hornets are believed to have accepted an offer of around £1.5m for the Nigerian international. Shittu joined Watford from Queens Park Rangers in 2006 and has previously had spells with Charlton and Blackpool. The 27-year-old is expected to conclude signing talks early next week and could then join the squad on their pre-season tour of the Netherlands and Germany. Celtic have also been linked with a move for Shittu and several Premier League clubs have made enquiries about the defender this summer. Should Shittu finalise his move to Ibrox, he will be competing with Carlos Cuellar, Christian Dailly, Andy Webster and David Weir for a place in Rangers' central defence. Earlier this month, Dailly and Weir extended their stay with Walter Smith's side by signing new one-year contracts.
