Rangers defenders Christian Dailly and David Weir have both signed new one-year contracts with the Ibrox club.

Weir, 38, first joined Walter Smith's side in January 2007 with 34-year-old Dailly arriving a year later.

"As soon as the manager said he wanted me to stay for another year, I was delighted," Weir told the club website.

"As a player you want to be in the team week in, week out. I obviously want to be involved and that will be my aim, but it's up to me to try to do that."

Former Everton and Hearts defender Weir was one of Smith's first signings when he became Rangers manager for a second time in January 2007.

Dailly, who joined from West Ham, has been deployed in defence and midfield by Smith, who worked with both players during his time as Scotland manager.

Meanwhile, Smith is still in talks with Fulham over a permanent deal for midfielder Steven Davis.

The Northern Ireland international spent the second half of last season on loan at Ibrox and Smith remains keen to have the 23-year-old on board for the new season.

"We have been in discussions with Fulham and that's where the situation rests at the present moment," said Smith.

"We have expressed an interest in taking Steven and hopefully there will be ongoing talks within the next few weeks."
