Rangers have pulled out of a deal to sign Nigerian international defender Danny Shittu from Watford.

The 27-year-old was in talks with the Ibrox club after his club accepted a bid of around £1.5m.

But personal terms could not be agreed and Rangers have now ended their interest in the player.

New Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo wants to keep captain Christophe Berra and winger Andrew Driver at the club.

Defender Berra has been linked with a move to Wolves while Driver has attracted interest from Burnley.

Rangers are close to completing the signing of defender Danny Shittu from Championship side Watford.

The Hornets are believed to have accepted an offer of around £1.5m for the Nigerian international.

Shittu joined Watford from Queens Park Rangers in 2006 and has previously had spells with Charlton and Blackpool.

Hearts have appointed Uganda coach Csaba Laszlo as their new manager.

The 44-year-old former Ferencváros and Borussia Mönchengladbach coach has signed a three-year contract following the exit of caretaker Stevie Frail.

Romania-born Laszlo will work with sport director Anatoly Korobochka on first-team matters, Hearts announced.

Rangers will renew their efforts to sign Steven Davis and could look for new midfield targets following injury to captain Barry Ferguson.

Ferguson has been ruled out for up to four months with an ankle injury.

Hearts have approached Uganda in an effort to secure the services of their coach Laszlo Csaba.

The Edinburgh club have received permission from the Ugandan FA to speak to the Romania-born coach.

Hearts have confirmed the departure of caretaker manager Stephen Frail as former Leicester boss Ian Holloway admitted he was interested in the job.
