Ferguson delays ankle operation
Rangers captain Barry Ferguson says he will delay having an operation to repair a damaged ankle in order to front the club's league title push.

Ferguson received treatment on Tuesday and missed the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Partick at Ibrox.

"I have to wait 48 hours for the ankle to settle down now before I can do any work," said the Scotland international.

"I'm desperate to play my part in the run-in and that was dominating my mind. I'm not for stopping now."

Ferguson has played 50 games this season, only resting for previous cup ties with East Stirlingshire and East Fife.

Ferguson's form has dipped in recent games, and it emerged that the 30-year-old has been playing for several weeks with the injury.

But Rangers' assistant manager Ally McCoist indicated earlier that the skipper should be back in action for Saturday's league clash at home to Hibernian.

However, the problem could mean Scotland captain Ferguson does not now play a full role in the national team's friendly against Croatia next Wednesday.

Manager Walter Smith will want to ensure his inspirational captain's presence as they attempt to recapture the Scottish Premier League title.

Rangers face a crucial league title showdown with Old Firm rivals Celtic on 29 March.

The club is also still challenging for the Scottish Cup and the Uefa Cup.
