Celtic sign Hinkel from Sevilla

Full-back Hinkel moved to Sevilla in the summer of 2006
Celtic have completed the signing of Andreas Hinkel from the Spanish side Sevilla for a fee of around £1.9m.

The 25-year-old German right-back has signed a contract which ties him to the Scottish champions until 2011.

REFEREES AND ASSISTANTS CONFIRMED FOR 2008 FIFA LIST

In the latter part of December, FIFA confirmed to the SFA that all the Referee Committee’s nominations for inclusion in the 2008 List of International Referees and Assistant Referees had been accepted.

Stuart Dougal retired after 11 years service as a FIFA referee at the end of December due to his reaching the age limit of 45 years. The Referee Committee chose, on this occasion, not to submit a nomination in his place but will return to submitting seven referee nominations in the future.

HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN LOSE APPEAL ON ZALIUKAS SENDING OFF

Heart of Midlothian has lost a Claim of Wrongful Dismissal which it had submitted late this afternoon in respect of the sending off of its player Marius Zaliukas in the club’s match against Dundee United on Wednesday.

The player had been sent off for violent conduct towards Dundee United’s Lee Wilkie by referee Alan Freeland.

In accordance with the provisions for Claims of Wrongful Dismissal, the referee is given the opportunity to review the circumstances of the sending off. Alan Freeland has indicated that he is content with his decision to send the player off. The Claim is therefore dismissed.

Zaliukas is automatically suspended for Heart of Midlothian’s home match against Kilmarnock tomorrow. The player has also incurred a fixed suspension of two matches commencing from 16th January.

Hundreds of sporting figures and fans gathered for the funeral of footballer Phil O'Donnell, who died after a match on Saturday.

The 35-year-old Motherwell captain collapsed during a match against Dundee United and was pronounced dead a short time later in Wishaw General Hospital.

Hutton rejects move to Tottenham

Hutton has been in superb form for Rangers this season
Rangers and Scotland full-back Alan Hutton's decision to turn down a move to Tottenham has "delighted" his club manager Walter Smith.
