Rangers are Britain's only representatives in the 12-team field
Rangers have diversified into motorsport's Superleague Formula in order to boost the club's worldwide profile and bring in extra revenue.

The team's V12 car will compete with 11 other European and South American football clubs in the six-round series.

"We're thrilled to be entering a totally new sporting endeavour," said Rangers chief executive Martin Bain.

"It's a project which will promote Rangers across the world, and provide an income stream for the club."

The other clubs involved are AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, Porto, Olympiacos, Borussia Dortmund, Anderlecht, Basle, Galatasaray, Sevilla, Flamengo and Corinthians.

The 750-horsepower Rangers car will carry the club's livery and will make its debut at Donington Park in August.

Bain believes the move will bring in more funds to strengthen footballing operations.

"We'll benefit greatly through sponsorship, television and spectator revenues, ... Read more »

Rangers captain Barry Ferguson says he will delay having an operation to repair a damaged ankle in order to front the club's league title push.

Ferguson received treatment on Tuesday and missed the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Partick at Ibrox.

"I have to wait 48 hours for the ankle to settle down now before I can do any work," said the Scotland international.

"I'm desperate to play my part in the run-in and that was dominating my mind. I'm not for stopping now."

Ferguson has played 50 games this season, only resting for previous cup ties with East Stirlingshire and East Fife.

Ferguson's form has dipped in recent games, and it emerged that the 30-year-old has been playing for several weeks with the injury.

But Rangers' assistant manager Ally McCoist indicated earlier that the skipper should be back in action for Saturday's league clash at home to Hibernian.

However, the problem could mean Scotland captain Ferguson does not now play a full role in the n ... Read more »

Scott Brown
Brown believes Celtic's season is far from over
Scott Brown insists he is confident Celtic can salvage their season by retaining the Scottish Premier League.

Despite trailing Rangers in second spot, the Scotland midfielder says the destination of the title remains in their hands.

"If we win every game, we win the league," Brown told the Celtic View.

"I know that sounds simple, but we're determined to finish with a bang and make sure it's us who are celebrating at the end of the season."

Darren Mackie's goal for Aberdeen at Celtic Park on Tuesday night dumped the holders out of the Scottish Cup.

And manager Gordon Strachan's attempts to gain ground on table-toppers Rangers suffered a blow with a draw against Dundee United in their last league match.

That leaves Celtic three points adrift of Rangers, who also have a game in hand.

However, Brown believes the three remaining matches against the Ibrox side will prove pivotal to the desti ... Read more »

SPL money helps Gretna continue
Raydale Park
The SPL money will help Gretna to continue until the split
The Scottish Premier League has advanced Gretna some of the money the club needs to survive until at least the league splits.

Gretna, who entered administration this week after benefactor Brooks Mileson withdrew his financial backing after falling ill.

BBC Sport has learned Gretna will be paid £100,000 by the SPL.

Meanwhile, former Carlisle United boss Roddy Collins is heading an Irish consortium aiming to buy the club.

The money from the SPL would enable Gretna to play the five matches before the league divides into top six and bottom six.

Collins said he and other members of property developers the McMullen Group, will meet administrators at Raydale Park on Tuesday to discuss the bid.

Celtic first-team coach Tommy Burns is facing a fresh battle against skin cancer, the club has confirmed.

The 51-year-old was diagnosed as suffering from a melanoma in March 2006 and had responded well to treatment.

But a spokesperson for Celtic said: "Celtic today confirm that first-team coach Tommy Burns is to receive continued cancer treatment.

"Tommy intends to continue as first-team coach and head of the youth academy during this treatment."

Gretna have begun formal proceedings to move into administration, the struggling SPL club have announced.

Illness to owner Brooks Mileson has cut off his supply of cash, with the club stranded at the foot of the table.

It will mean a 10-point penalty and almost certain relegation from the SPL, while their players face the possibility of redundancy.

"The players are in good spirits but they are in limbo," said players' union chief executive Fraser Wishart.

Interview: Fraser Wishart, chief exec PFA Scotland

"The players don't want their futures played out in the press, they are looking for clarity and they had a barrage of questions for me.

"I'm guessing that there will be casualties but we hope that they are kept to a minimum."

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has spoken out against the possibility of the Old Firm moving to England's top flight.

The idea of Celtic and Rangers moving down south has often been mooted but world football's governing body would not endorse it.

"It would be detrimental to Scotland if the two best teams leave to try and play in England," he told BBC Sport.

"It is also good for the political aspects that the British Associations keep their different leagues."

Blatter and his Uefa counterpart Michel Platini are in Scotland for the International Football Association Board meeting in Gleneagles.

And Blatter has promised to hear Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith's proposals to make use of video evidence to punish players for diving.

This season, Fifa regulations prevented Scottish referees from taking part in a scheme where they could pena ... Read more »

Lynch McQueen were seeking payment of £12,400 for unpaid invoices and Hearts declined to defend the action at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.

Hearts were given 14 days to pay to prevent assets being seized or the pursuer seeking a winding-up order.

But, although a company source told BBC Sport it still has not been paid, Hearts say a cheque has been forwarded.

As recently as last week, we questioned Lynch McQueen directly as to why they had not cashed the cheque
