Hinkel poised to sign for Celtic

Full-back Hinkel moved to Sevilla in the summer of 2006
German international full-back Andreas Hinkel has agreed a January transfer to Celtic, BBC Sport understands.

The attacking right-back will move from Spanish club Sevilla, who he joined from Stuttgart in June 2006.

The 25-year-old had been talking to Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund after submitting a transfer request.

Scotland captain Barry Ferguson believes Mark McGhee and Craig Levein are the two outstanding candidates to become the next national team coach.

"I think we've got some good managers in the Premier League just now," said the Rangers midfielder.

"The two that stick out are Mark McGhee and Craig Levein, who have done great jobs at Motherwell and Dundee United.

Gifted youngster Alex Cooper was a target for several clubs
Liverpool have signed Ross County's highly-rated teenager Alex Cooper in a £100,000 deal.

The 16-year-old winger, who has won caps for Scotland at junior level and was a target for Chelsea, is the son of former Aberdeen star Neale Cooper.

Dundee United have agreed a deal to sign 21-year-old Gretna defender Danny Grainger when the January transfer window opens next week.

The Carlisle-born left-back will move to Tannadice on Tuesday and end his five-year stay with Gretna.

Grainger joined on schoolboy terms and helped Gretna climb through the Scottish Football League and into the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
