Derry call off match with Celtic
Derry City have postponed Sunday's friendly against Celtic amid claims of unhappiness at the strength of the visiting team from Scotland. The match at Brandywell had been arranged as part of winger Paddy McCourt's 2008 transfer from Derry to the Glasgow club. Derry gave no explanation for the decision to postpone the match "until further notice". However, they have offered refunds to supporters who had bought tickets. Nobody from Celtic was available for comment. A large section of Celtic's first-team squad are on international duty. Indeed, McCourt is himself with the Northern Ireland squad ahead of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier away to Czech Republic. The postponement of Derry's friendly was announced during Friday's 1-0 League of Ireland Premier Division defeat by leaders Shamrock Rovers at Brandywell. Celtic are due to to face Irish League club Cliftonville in a televised match on Tuesday.
