Rangers welcome fierce rivals Celtic to Ibrox on Saturday
With Christmas falling on Thursday, Scottish players have been granted an extra day to digest all those chipolatas and brussel sprouts.

There will be no Boxing Day fixtures to offer respite from the seasonal over-indulgence but fans won't have too long to wait for their fix of football.

Bougherra says he is enjoying his first season at Rangers

Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra says he is happy at Ibrox - despite speculation linking him with a move to French outfit Marseille.

The 26-year-old has impressed for Rangers this season since signing for £2.5m from Charlton in the summer.

"I am very comfortable here and I am staying," said the Algerian.

"I have my agent and he never calls me until January or the end of a season, but I've told him I'm very happy with Rangers and want to stay on." ... Read more »

Rugby Park
The Rugby Park surface failed an early pitch inspection on Saturday.

The Scottish Premier League is writing to Kilmarnock and Motherwell to seek answers over the postponement of their weekend fixtures.

Pitch protection systems failed at Rugby Park and Fir Park and SPL secretary Iain Blair branded the situation an "embarrassment".

"We won't be able to move forward until we get all the information in," said a spokesman for the SPL.

"There has been dialogue with the clubs but that needs to be formal now." ... Read more »

Aberdeen v St Mirren

Defenders Lee Mair and Andrew Considine return to the Aberdeen squad for the visit of St Mirren.

Stuart Duff, Tommy Wright and Bertrand Bossu also sit out the visit of Gus MacPherson's side through injury.

St Mirren defender Scott Cuthbert is available for the Saints after recovering from flu.

The 21-year-old defender, who is on loan from Celtic, missed Saturday's defeat by Hearts, but returned to training on Monday.

Quotes attributed to Sir David Murray angered the Dundee clubs

Dundee United say they have accepted a personal apology from Sir David Murray after the Rangers chairman was quoted criticising the city's football fans.

Murray said in the Sunday Times that abuse between some United and Dundee fans on certain websites was "just as bad" as between Celtic and Rangers.

United now say Murray has apologised for any distress caused.

Fans gathered near the church

About 1,000 Dundee United fans gathered to mourn chairman Eddie Thompson as his funeral took place in Broughty Ferry.

Mr Thompson died last week aged 67 after a long battle with cancer.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan and TV presenter Lorraine Kelly were among those attending the service at St Mary's Episcopal Church.

The service was for family and friends only but loudspeakers were used to broadcast the ceremony to mourners gathered outside the church. ... Read more »

Thompson had been battling illness for some time

Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson has died following a long battle with prostate cancer.

The 67-year-old Glasgow-born businessman, who made his money through convenience stores, became the majority shareholder at the club in 2002.

Over the course of six years, he turned a £2.7m loss into an operating profit and set up a fans' trust that became United's second-largest stakeholder.
