The English Premiere League final round Today the final round of the EPL season 2008/2009 will be played. The Barclays Premier League season reaches a thrilling conclusion on Sunday with all eyes on the survival struggle. But it's also worth to take a look at the top of the league to see who takes which European Cup spot for next season. After Manchester United wrapped up the title last week, the spotlight falls on the battle to stay in the top flight with four teams striving to avoid joining West Bromwich Albion in the Championship. Middlesbrough are in greatest jeopardy, they need to win at West Ham United and hope other results go their way. They need Newcastle United to fail to win and Hull City to lose with a five-goal swing in Boro's favour. If Hull wins and Sunderland pick up a point at home to Chelsea then Newcastle will be relegated, regardless of their own result. A draw at Aston Villa would keep Newcastle up if Hull City lose at home to Manchester United while a victory for the Geordies would see them stay up if Sunderland lose or Hull fail to win. Victory for Hull would make them safe while the Black Cats know a point would be enough. The other major outstanding issue is the race for the final Europa League spot with Fulham currently holding the whip-hand. Roy Hodgson's men host FA Cup finalists Everton knowing they need to match or better Tottenham Hotspur's result at Liverpool in order to claim seventh place. Liverpool need a point against Harry Redknapp's men to be sure of finishing as runners-up. If they fail to, Chelsea might catch the runner up spot but they need to win then. It promises to be a great day so follow it all live and free! | |
