War memorial moves for tram works
Hearts war memorial
The war memorial was built by Hearts Football Club in 1922

Work is due to begin later to remove a famous Edinburgh landmark to make way for work on the city's tram network.

The Heart of Midlothian Memorial Monument will be removed from the busy Haymarket junction and put in to storage for the next two years.

The World War I memorial and clock will be re-erected at a new site at the junction when the tram works are completed.

A temporary memorial will be sited nearby for the next couple of years.

Among those commemorated by the memorial are footballers from one of the finest teams ever fielded by the city's Heart of Midlothian club.

Thirteen had joined up when the war broke out. Seven did not return.
