Co-op Cup - quarter-final drawHolders Rangers have been rewarded for their extra-time win over Partick Thistle by a home tie against Hamilton in the Co-operative Insurance Cup. Celtic have been drawn away to Kilmarnock only days after a league win over the Ayrshire side at Rugby Park. Dunfermline Athletic, the only remaining non-Scottish Premier League outfit at the quarter-final stage, are away to Dundee United. Falkirk play host to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the other tie. Caley Thistle won 2-1 when the two sides met at Falkirk Stadium in August, but the Bairns edged the only previous League Cup meeting between the sides, 1-0 in Inverness two years ago. Hamilton, who have not faced Rangers since losing 6-0 at home in a Scottish Cup tie in 1999, will travel to Ibrox a matter of days after hosting the SPL leaders in the league.
But, while Academical vice-chairman Les Gray would have preferred a home tie, he was delighted to get his wish of facing one of Scotland's two major clubs. "This is the first time that we have got there for some time," he said of the progress to the quarter-finals after a 2-1 derby win. "I think it's the first time that we've beaten Motherwell in a competitive game for 20 years. "The whole town is buzzing and I was in the club this morning and the players are buzzing." Gray was delighted with the start Accies have made on their return to Scotland's top flight and thought that the extra revenue from a game against one of the Old Firm would "help us sustain our position". Meanwhile, the other half of Glasgow's big two, Celtic, will travel to Rugby Park looking for a repeat of Sunday's 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock in the SPL. Dunfermline have been out of Scotland's top flight for just over a season, but the First Division side are on a six-game unbeaten run against United that has included a win and two draws at Tannadice. The Pars also won the last League Cup meeting between the sides, in 1991. The quarter-final ties will be played on 28/29 October.
