Auld Enemy summer game scrapped
The Auld Enemy were expected to meet in May, but it has been ruled out by Scotland manager George Burley. Celtic and Rangers players may be unavailable for international duty due to club trips in the close season. A Scottish FA spokesman told BBC Scotland Burley wanted to wait until he had his strongest squad available, and a new date is being sought. Burley, 51, was appointed the new Scotland manager last month. Former England captain Terry Butcher, who has agreed to become part of Burley's backroom staff, has admitted he would want Scotland to beat his country should the two nations meet. Burley has named his squad for a Scotland training camp in Glasgow from 3-5 February. The squad is his first as the new national manager and will give him an opportunity to meet the players and discuss his future plans. Scotland's first match under Burley will be the friendly against Croatia at Hampden Park on 26 March. | |
